I contributed to a post on LinkedIn the other day, where a number of people alluded to the idea that sales professionals are going the way of the dinosaur. Here’s my response.

Social media is transforming the way we do business and it’s only just begun. We have just started our own highly focused UK marketing campaign and only 20% of the top decision makers are registered on LinkedIn, and the feedback we’re getting is that the majority of their sales teams have restricted internet access also.

Of course this situation is changing fast and we’re seeing a new breed of sales professional, one that we have taken from Neil Warren at ModernSelling.com, Multimedia Sales; where we are combining the old (sending out printed letters, brochures, flyers, picking up the telephone) in conjunction with the new (social media, email etc).

People learn to adapt fast and right now it’s survival of the fastest. There always has and always will be a need for good sales professionals.

Ah yes - but the "average" life of any given species is only 1,000,000 - and we might have had 300,000 of those, so times a pressing Mr Bean, times a pressin'.
