| Oliver Webster - Your bright idea is? |
We're all guilty of using technology for technology's sake but every now and again a product comes along that really does make your life easier when it comes to engaging your audience and helping to train or win business. Pocket (or pico) projectors have been around a while now but what's really new is that they have become much brighter and ideal for sales, business presentation and training.
I'd like to hear your views on how you think using a pico projector could benefit you or your teams in sales or training? I will be offering a free trial of the 3M Mpro 180 pocket projector for the best responses and if anyone would like to email me directly they can enter a competition to win a £500 Vivitek Qumi Pico Projector.
If you are not yet familiar with the latest LED pico pocket projectors its worth looking at how they can provide a real wow factor when engaging with an audience. For example here is the latest Qumi model from Vivitek...
These ultra portable mini projectors are a godsend to anyone travelling from one place to another as they are not much larger or heavier than a mobile phone yet they can project images up to 100 inches without a laptop. They power from a battery and can project directly from SD card or from an iphone, Smartphone, laptop, tablet etc.
Clients are often amazed when you turn on such a small device and within seconds you're sharing content on a wall without the aid of a laptop from a device that fits in the palm of your hand. This is what we call the "Pico Pitch" effect which helps to engage your audience from the word go.
Pico projectors have many advantages over traditional projectors. For example, there are fewer awkward moments booting the projector, finding a plug or having to make small talk while your projector takes an age to switch on. With a pico projector you can simply pull it out of your pocket, turn it on and in less than a 10 secs your audience is mesmerised by your ability to present PowerPoint, photos or videos from the palm of your hand.
Most importantly the projectors are LED so you won't ever be mid presentation and find yourself with a lamp that's faded or dead as LED's last up to 30,000 hours instead of 2,000 hours on a traditional projector. Clearly this means your total cost of ownership is significantly less too with bulbs costing up to £400 each year in some cases.
And note that pico or pocket projectors have many advantages over traditional projectors when it comes to business use, as can be seen from the 3M video below......
Additionally, the pico technology helps you break free from traditional barriers when engaging with an audience making it far easier to simply strike up a conversation by sharing content from your hand with several people. Whether you're networking or just in Starbucks you can quickly and easily share your latest thoughts with a potential client without the need to boot up your laptop.
Other joys of this type of technology are they remove any anxiety before a meeting as you can guarantee your content is ready to project instantly and simply.
Overall, it's well worth exploring how you can save money when your next projector dies, improve your networking and engage more with your audience every time with one simple click with a pico projector.
If you work in a sales teams or are involved in business presentations, training or networking let us know how you think using a pico projector could benefit you or your teams in sales or training?

Questions & Comments
Very "handy" for sales presentations anywhere!
They look great Oliver, and let me just offer a quick demo of my own, using this new "Log in with LinkedIn" app, which people may not have seen before.
If you just click that button - assuming you have a LinkedIn profile, of course, the only thing you'll need to confirm is the email address you use (LinkedIn don't automatically forward it), and then you're all hooked up and your name on the posting here links back to you, like mine or Oliver's. Simples!
(Then you can get on and give Oliver your bright ideas, of course ;-)

Perfect iPad/tablet companions
If you're not sure of the value of pocket projectors yet, ask yourself how fast the iPad was adopted as an addition to the laptop, the tablets are the perfect tool for the sales managers who need quick access to their data - now the pocket projector takes it yet a step further allowing for quick sharing of content with a group through projection rather than huddling around the iPad. I think the adoption of pocket/pico projectors can go really fast in the coming year.

Pocket Projector ideal for Training / Sales Days or the Bar!
The applications for the pico projectors seem never ending. I went to a bar last night and showed some friends the new pico projector from 3M.
I decided to playback an away day i went on where we had some fun driving Ferraris and Aston Martins around the race track. Playing this back on a 60 inch screen on the 3M MP180 projector was pretty cool as we could all share it and easily see it without crowding around a small laptop screen or 3" camera screen.
The projector was a real WOW factor in the bar, in fact it got so much attention the whole bar just stopped and stared at the projected images trying to work out how something so small could deliver such a large image. They were totally amazed.
So if your doing a sales/training away day the pico projecotor could be perfect. You can even get camcorders now from 3M (CP45) with built in projectors for instant shoot and share.
Could be cool to take one on holiday too to save all those connection problems you get trying to share your days fun on the hotel TV.

Making a positive impact on customers....
Oliver I agree with you - I was at a meeting recently and a colleague had loaded his presentation onto his i-Pod hooked it up to his Pocket Projector pulled out his portable screen and was able to deliver a brilliant presentation to our retail customer in their cafe area. It was the equivalent of having a portable meeting room, as you would expect the customer was very impressed. Obviously the content of the presentation was very strong with a number of pieces of information that the customer was unaware and intertwined with technology & product demonstrations to make the presentation engaging.
So what does someone have to do to win one then Oliver?

Portable Meeting Rooms
Justin - I love the idea of being able to carry around with you a tiny but highly "Portable Meeting Room" and then be able to just go to where your audience is and project your ideas to them in an instant without the hassle of setting up a projector.
Its this instant-on capabaility which I really think is a game changer for sales people who can for the first time start to consider pocket projectors as a key part of their daily arsenal of tools to go hand in hand with the Smartphone or netbook. How else can you quickly project your message across whether its the catalogue of products you have or a video of your last customer saying how great the product is. You can now do this sort of thing whether you are in Starbucks, the customers office or just at a networking event.
If you're networking, how many times have you been asked, "what do you do?", and later wished you had a quicker way to explain it. Often a picture paints a thousand words so the pocket projector is a great enabler to make an instant connection with a WOW factor.
So HOW DO YOU WIN THE QUMI POCKET PROJECTOR - just comment on this blog about "how you think using a pico projector could benefit you or your teams in sales or training?" and then email me directly at oliver@personalprojector.co.uk so i can personally enter you into the competition. Simples!
OR TRIAL A 3M POCKET PROJECTOR - if you think a pocket projector could be useful to you just explain how on here and I will arrange a trial wherever possible.

The Bedroom Bug Test..."It's Awesome!"
I know we looked at this one Oliver, and you thought perhaps it wasn't "professional" enough.
I really, really like it though, and whatever mumbles or "apologies" our trusty US bedroom tester does offer (he doesn't, he's just explaining how a crack of bright sunlight might be slightly affecting Nirvana - and bear in mind he's filming a projection from the telly), he's clearly preferring it to his more expensive and utterly un-portable, only-50-inch, plasma TV...

...and finishes with..."It's Awesome!"

Video - TV - Digital Content - Smart Phones - Tablets etc., etc..
This is not an entry or specific idea for you Oliver, and I'm sure the Americans are still a but ahead of us, as well as this having a B2C (consumer) bias. But I do think that the trends, and specifically the need for "social" (as well as business-social) media to be engaging and community-interaction based, is all good.
This being a 5-minute video interview with NBC's Exec Vice President of Digital Sales - Peter Naylor...
